Conditions of participation for DreamHack Hannover

DreamHack Hannover is an esports and gaming festival with an expo, esports tournaments and a LAN party. DreamHack Hannover is organized by Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH, An der Spreeschanze 10, 13599 Berlin (“Organizer”). The following conditions of participation and the house rules of Messe Hannover apply to visitors (“visitors”) of the event.

1: General access regulations

1.1. Access to the event site is only possible with a valid ticket. The ticket must be shown at the first entrance. Visitors are permitted to leave the event site, re-entry is granted upon presentation of the ticket. Access to the festival is permitted from the age of 16, participation in the LAN is permitted from the age of 18.

1.2. When entering the event site, security checks can be carried out by the on-site security service (e.g. bag checks). Visitors agree to this.

1.3. The organizer reserves the right to refuse a visitor admission to the event site for important reasons. An important reason is in particular, but not exclusively, the carrying of prohibited objects according to Section 8, an obviously heavily intoxicated state of the visitor, if the visitor is obviously under the influence of drugs or the visitor has an obviously homophobic, sexist, racist or inhuman attitude. Entry will also be denied if the protection of minors is violated. If there is an important reason for the refusal of admission, the tickets lose their validity and the admission price will not be refunded.

2: Access to the LAN area

2.1. With each purchased LAN ticket (BYOC LAN regular Pass, BYOC LAN premium Pass), the LAN participant receives a seat in the row of tables and a chair (depending on the size of the ticket). Seats are allocated using a separate seating map. In addition, he is given the right to stay within DreamHack Hannover for the duration of the event in accordance with the opening times of the respective event areas.

2.2. Access to the LAN area and use of the LAN infrastructure is only permitted if the following conditions apply: The participating person

  • has a valid ticket
  • has a valid seat reservation
  • has reached the age of 18 and
  • had their identity and age verified by presenting an official photo ID (identity card, passport or driver’s license) at check-in.

2.3. If the visitor’s identity or age cannot be verified, the organizer is entitled to refuse the visitor access to the event. In this case, the ticket price or booked additional services will not be refunded.

3: Course of the event

3.1. The house rules of the operator of Messe Hannover, Deutsche Messe AG, also apply.

3.2. The instructions of the employees of Messe Hannover, the organizer and the helpers deployed must be followed.

3.3. Visitors are obliged to act in accordance with the law throughout the duration of the event and not to intentionally disrupt the event. Every visitor must behave in such a way that they do not endanger or harm anyone else.

DreamHack Hannover has a zero-tolerance policy against any form of discrimination, including but not limited to:

  • demeaning language,
  • threats,
  • intimidation,
  • Photos or recordings that are made without the appropriate consent,
  • inappropriate physical contact,
  • Discrimination based on race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, age, body size and gender.

The zero-tolerance policy is binding for every LAN participant, visitor, employee, exhibitor and also for the press. We encourage everyone to immediately report any sign of discrimination to a member of staff or the police. Persons who violate these rules will be expelled from the site with immediate effect.

3.4. At DreamHack Hannover, the consumption of drugs or alcoholic beverages not purchased on site is prohibited.

3.5. Equipment and objects brought along are to be supervised by the visitors themselves. The organizer assumes no duty of care and excludes any liability for damage and loss. The exclusion of liability is also not restricted by any security measures taken by the organizer or Messe Hannover.

3.6. Extensions or changes to the equipment and technical infrastructure of DreamHack Hannover, in particular the commissioning of your own server, WLAN point or router with the DreamHack network is not permitted.

3.7. You are only allowed to bring one chair per seat. Conventional office or gaming chairs are allowed. Stacking multiple chairs is prohibited. Bringing armchairs, sofas or similar is not permitted.

3.8. Laser pointers are prohibited.

3.9. Bringing PA equipment or large speakers is not permitted. In order to keep the noise level as low as possible, LAN participants are asked to use headphones.

3.10. The LAN participants are responsible for keeping the seat and the surrounding area free of waste. Waste is a highly flammable material and is therefore also a fire hazard. LAN participants are asked to throw their rubbish in the waste bins provided.

3.11. Every LAN participant is obliged to leave their seat in a tidy state after the end of the event. Objects brought along (e.g. computers, monitors, chairs) must be removed from the event site. Items left behind will be kept by the organizer for a period of four weeks after the end of the event. The owner can pick them up at the exhibition center upon presentation of proof of eligibility. There will be no postal delivery. At the end of the four weeks, items left behind will be handed over to the lost and found office of the city of Hanover.

4: Network and Power

4.1. The LAN participant is obligated to only use access provided by the organizer (such as accounts, seating map, Internet/W-LAN etc.) with proper use of the access data provided (ID, password) and not to circumvent any access restrictions. The LAN participant is responsible for keeping his password secret and not allowing any third party access to his account via his password. He must inform the organizer immediately of any unauthorized use by third parties. He bears the costs and damage caused by unauthorized use of the access data by third parties if and to the extent that the user is responsible for the unauthorized third-party use.

4.2. The LAN participant is responsible for the security of the data traffic. The LAN participant is aware that unencrypted, wirelessly exchanged data may be viewed by third parties. The use of the Internet is at the user’s own risk.

4.3. Equipment and devices that the LAN participants bring with them for use will not be checked by the organizer for suitability, security and suitability for operation. The use of these items and devices is at your own risk and responsibility.

4.4. The LAN participant may not violate legal prohibitions, the rights of third parties (name, copyright, data protection rights, etc.) or common decency with the form, content or intended purpose of his Internet use. In particular, the LAN participant undertakes not to display, make publicly available or disseminate any copyrighted content, pornographic, violent or racist content, not to call for criminal offenses or to provide instructions for this.

4.5. If the LAN participant violates legal regulations or the rights of third parties and if the LAN participant is responsible for this, he is liable to the organizer for compensation for all resulting damage.

4.6. The organizer reserves the right to block the WLAN or network connection without prior notice if the LAN participant or a third party violates the provisions of these terms of use or the house rules using the identifiers and passwords assigned to him. The claim for compensation of the organizer remains unaffected.

4.7. Disturbances and failures of the network and the WLAN connection are rectified as quickly as possible to the best of our ability during the service hours. An operating guarantee is not assumed in this case. Disturbances and failures must be reported to the organizer immediately; otherwise a speedy processing of the fault and the restoration of the WLAN or network connection cannot be guaranteed. The organizer assumes no liability for fluctuations or failures in the electricity network or for faults caused by undervoltage or overvoltage.

4.8. Each seat has one (1) power outlet. The LAN participants must bring their own distributors and connect them to the socket provided. The use of electricity from the neighboring site is prohibited. LAN participants are asked to use good quality power cords and extension cords.

5: Tournaments

5.1. In principle, every LAN participant has the opportunity to take part in the tournaments and side events offered as part of DreamHack Hannover. Participation depends on the available places and can therefore not be guaranteed. There is no entitlement to tournaments and side events. The organizer reserves the right to cancel tournaments and side events at any time.

5.2. The tournaments and side events are based on separate regulations regarding registration, start, procedure, point allocation and ranking system. LAN participants are required to abide by the rules announced prior to the tournament or side event. The Promoter reserves the right to revoke eligibility to participate in the tournament or competition in the event of violations.

5.3. The LAN participant must procure any software and hardware required for participation in a tournament or side event himself, unless the organizer expressly declares that he will make the software and/or hardware available.

5.4. The organizer reserves the right to reward successful tournament and side event placements with prizes provided by cooperation partners or sponsors. In such a case, the organizer will announce the prices for the corresponding placements before the start of the tournament or side event.

5.5. Prizes must be picked up during the official awards ceremony. Forwarding or earlier prize handover does not take place. LAN participants who are unable to collect the prize in person have the option of nominating an authorized recipient with the organizer of the respective tournament or side event. If a prize is not accepted by the winner and the organizer of the tournament or side event has not been named a person entitled to receive it, the LAN participant’s right to receive the prize lapses.

5.6. The LAN participant of a tournament or side event consents to their name being published on leaderboards and at the awards ceremony. Both the name and contact details of each LAN participant who has qualified for the league may be passed on to other leagues.

5.7. Participation and the awarding of prizes take place under exclusion of legal recourse.

5.8. The above points also refer to participation in festival tournaments outside the LAN area and also apply to festival visitors.

6: Security

6.1. It is not permitted to hang clothing or other easily flammable material over the network equipment or electrical system.

6.2. Bringing and using the following devices is prohibited: toasters, microwaves, coffee makers, refrigerators, spotlights or any other device that uses a lot of electricity and emits a lot of heat. Conventional fairy lights and 230 volt light bulbs also pose a fire risk and must only be used with increased caution. Fairy lights and incandescent bulbs must not be covered with flammable material such as paper, plastic or clothing. The organizer’s employees may confiscate the property in the event of unsuitability or increased risk to safety, even for the duration of participation in the event.

6.3. It is not permitted to stow objects in the aisles. The aisles within the LAN area must be kept clear in the event of a fire. Personal belongings should be stowed under each table.

6.4. If a LAN participant’s computer causes problems (e.g. due to viruses, attacks, etc.), this computer will be taken offline until the problem is solved. If the respective LAN participant refuses to disconnect, they can be expelled from the site.

6.5. Each LAN participant should take appropriate precautionary measures to protect against viruses, spyware, etc. Each LAN participant is instructed to have an up-to-date virus program and a firewall installed.

6.6: Conditions for bringing devices into the LAN

6.6.1. For security reasons and to prevent theft, visitors must register the following devices with the organizer (Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH) at the registration desk before these devices may be brought onto the event grounds of DreamHack Hannover 2022 (“Event”):

  • PCs
  • Laptops
  • Monitors

6.6.2. The organizer reserves the right to make the admission of further devices for the event, which are not mentioned under point 1, dependent on registration.

6.6.3. In the course of the registration the visitor has to give his/her name and telephone number, to identify him/herself with a photo ID and to show his/her ticket. Optionally, the address data can also be specified to extend the protection.

6.6.4. The devices to be registered will be provided with a bar code sticker (“Security Sticker”) by the organizer’s security staff. It is mandatory that the Security Sticker remains on the device for the entire time the device remains on the event premises.

6.6.5. Should the visitor notice any tampering, soiling or other damage to the security sticker during his/her visit, he/she must report this immediately to the organizer at the registration or information desk.

6.6.6. When leaving the event area, the security stickers on the devices will be read, the identity of the visitor will be checked and both will be compared with the registered data. If the device is not registered to the visitor, the identity of the visitor cannot be determined or the security sticker cannot be read out due to e.g. damage, the organizer reserves the right to take the device into custody until the ownership situation has been fully clarified. If there is a suspicion of a criminal offense (e.g. theft, embezzlement, etc.), the organizer reserves the right to call in the police. The costs incurred for any measures in connection with the identification must be borne by the visitor, if he/she is responsible for them. The visitor expressly agrees to this procedure by registering his/her equipment.

6.6.7. The organizer does not guarantee that a lost registered device can be found or recovered. Nevertheless, the loss of a device with a security sticker should be reported immediately by the visitor to the registration or information desk. The visitor is not entitled to the admission of his/her device to the event.

6.6.8. Any equipment, with or without a security sticker, found after the end of the event will be handed over to Messe Hannover’s lost and found office for further safekeeping.

6.6.9. Registration of the devices does not imply acceptance of the devices from a technical and/or legal point of view.

6.6.10. The registration of the devices does not imply the assumption of any kind of liability or warranty for the devices brought by the visitor by the organizer. It only serves the purpose of easier identification of devices.

7: Protection against infection

7.1. In order to meet possible official participation requirements for participation in major events, the visitor undertakes to fulfill these requirements (e.g. PCR entry or exit testing, rapid antigen test, etc.) at his own expense and expense.

7.2. The visitor agrees to provide the organizer with a possibly necessary digital or analogue anamnesis sheet about their own state of health. The visitor also agrees to provide digital or analogue information, if necessary via an automated data comparison about vaccination and/or test status.

7.3. The visitor undertakes to refrain from participating in the event if they have physical symptoms that indicate an infectious disease (SarsCov2, flu, cold, etc.). If symptoms occur that may indicate an infectious disease, the visitor undertakes to point them out and to contact the local medical service.

7.4. The organizer reserves the right to take suitable and necessary infection control measures to protect visitors to the event from serious infectious diseases (e.g. rapid antigen test upon entry, PCR testing, fever measurement, etc.). This also applies if the measures are not officially prescribed. The visitor agrees to assume any costs incurred at his own expense. There is no entitlement to the implementation of special measures.

7.5. The organizer can prescribe special rules of conduct for visitors to the event and order measures (e.g. AHA rules, path/walking direction restrictions, quantity limits, temperature measurements, test requirements). The visitor undertakes to observe these guidelines and to follow them. Visitors who do not observe these requirements or do not follow them can be expelled from the event site.

7.6. The visitor must find out about the current measures before visiting or participating. The organizer will provide this information accordingly.

8: Prohibited items

The following are prohibited on the entire event site:

  • Animals/pets, weapons of all kinds (also in the technical sense), so-called selfie sticks, torches, pyrotechnic objects, sparklers, sky lanterns, vuvuzelas, megaphones, drones, firewood, bulky waste (old sofas, armchairs, building materials, wood, etc.) shirts with anti-constitutional and prohibited background as well as dangerous objects of any kind
  • without prior written permission: photo, film, video cameras or other recording devices which, based on their equipment, type and size, are obviously not only for private use.

Cosplay, LARP weapons and props are subjected to a security check by the security staff at the access control. The organizer reserves the right, at its own discretion, to classify such objects as dangerous and to deny the visitor access with these objects. The organizer also reserves the right to classify objects previously classified as non-hazardous as hazardous and to take possession of them and store them temporarily, even after admission to the event. The organizer is entitled to take possession of prohibited objects and keep them temporarily.

9: Liability of the organizer

9.1. The organizer pays damages and compensation for wasted expenses, regardless of the legal reason (contract, tort), only to the following extent:

  • in the full amount in the event of intent, gross negligence and in cases in which the organizer has expressly and in writing accepted a contractual guarantee or the procurement risk;
  • in all other cases only in the event of a breach of a contractual obligation, without which the achievement of the respective purpose of the contract would be endangered and the fulfillment of which the visitor can therefore rely on, as well as for delay and claims from liability for defects / warranty, but limited to compensation for typical and foreseeable damage.

9.2. The organizer is not liable for lost or damaged items. Parking in designated parking spaces, as well as leaving hardware, equipment, luggage, jackets and other objects on the event site unsupervised by the visitor, is at your own risk.

9.3. Insofar as the organizer’s liability is effectively excluded or limited according to the above rules, this also applies to the personal liability of employees, other employees, organs, representatives and vicarious agents of the organizer.

9.4. Legal liability for personal injury and under the Product Liability Act remains unaffected.

9.5. The organizer is not responsible for disruptions, delays and/or damage caused by force majeure, in particular natural phenomena and official orders.

10: Video/Sound Recordings

10.1. The organizer, its cooperation partners and vicarious agents are permitted to make audio and video recordings throughout the event. For the purpose of documentation, information and advertising, every visitor irrevocably agrees to the free use of his or her picture in all current and future media formats (print, electronic storage media, Internet, in the press and in other media, e.g. radio and television, via cable and satellite, including all transmission protocols and transmission formats). If the visitor does not agree to this, participation in the event is not possible.

10.2. Visitors are prohibited from making audio and video recordings and drawings, in particular of trade fair stands and exhibits, for commercial purposes on the exhibition grounds without the prior written permission of the organizer.

10.3. For security reasons, the event rooms can be video-monitored for the entire duration of the event, taking into account Art. 5 (2) GDPR for the prevention and, if necessary, prosecution of criminal offenses, such as theft of hardware or peripherals provided by the organizer; this monitoring takes place separately from the recordings referred to in paragraph 9.1. Recordings obtained in this way are used exclusively to clarify behavior relevant to criminal law. The recordings will be deleted 72 hours after the end of the event. In order to clarify behavior relevant to criminal law, the 72-hour retention period can be deviated from and the recording can be released to the responsible authority.

11: Privacy

11.1. The organizer processes the personal data of visitors in compliance with the relevant data protection regulations, which can be found at http://dreamhack1.wp-dev.trian.net/privacy-policy. The personal data (in particular name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, image and sound recordings) are used by the organizer in the manner necessary for the establishment, design, modification or fulfillment of the contractual relationship, as well as the image and sound recordings described in 9.1 collected, processed and used to the required extent.

11.2. If the organizer is sued for a violation of the law, e.g. in the case of improper use of WLAN, the name and address of the user can be passed on to the competent authorities or persons who can credibly demonstrate a violation on the basis of Article 6 (1) (c) GDPR, to be passed on.

11.3. The visitor can object to any legally permitted use or transmission of his data for advertising purposes or purposes of market or opinion research to the organizer at any time in accordance with Article 21 (2) GDPR and revoke any consent given in this regard. The visitor will be informed about this right of objection for each advertising approach.

12: Miscellaneous

12.1. In addition to the Conditions of Participation, separate and supplementary conditions (in particular the house rules of Deutsche Messe AG) apply, in particular with regard to access to the events and halls, the organization of the event and public safety and order in the Hanover Fair. The domiciliary rights are exercised by the organiser, Messe Hannover and its stewards and security staff.

12.2. Should a provision in these Conditions of Participation be or become invalid or unenforceable, the remaining content of the contractual relationship shall not be affected.

12.3. All legal relationships between the contracting parties are exclusively subject to German law to the exclusion of the UN Sales Convention.

12.4. The place of performance and jurisdiction for all disputes in connection with this contractual relationship is Berlin if the visitor is a merchant or has his place of residence abroad.
